I am tired of the media constantly writing about Utley’s “slump” when he does not get a hit for 3 or 4 games. He is in the top 10 in virtual every important category and plays hard every single game. The articles about “so-called MVP” Jimmy Rollins doing his best Steve Jeltz impression are conspicuously absent. When your lead-off hitter is hitting .260 with no walks or power it tends to be difficult to score runs. But I guess if you have a bright smile and bubbly personality that is more important than actually putting runs up on the board. Also I am glad the Phillies let all-star CF and team leader Aaron Rowand leave so they could pay more money for Geoff Jenkins and Pedro Feliz. Pat Gillick is the 21st Century Branch Rickey.
I’m not sure how you could put slump in quotes when talking about Utley. I mean, it was clearly an awful slump, and he’s clearly still playing below his normal levels.
You’re right, though, that everyone else on the team also currently sucks, and Rollins has been even less effective.
