these conventions couldn’t be more awful.

“I will build new partnerships to defeat the threats of the 21st century: terrorism and nuclear proliferation; poverty and genocide; climate change and disease.” -The leader of the Obamanation

See. He’ll form partnerships. And that will defeat climate change, and disease. As soon as those viruses and bacteria see the partnership they will surrender or spontaneously die. And when there are enough people in the partnership the planet will stop misbehaving and will not change it’s climate for the first time in history.

It can’t be true you say. what is the price of these amazing partnerships you ask? Well the price isn’t discussed, but I think it is what isn’t discussed that is telling of the price. The word “Constitution” and the word “Rights” do not appear in the speech.

Sorry couldn’t help myself. I know these words don’t mean anything to him, because they are often contradictory, they are merely his tools to getting elected. Unfortunately I take words seriously, they actually have meanings.

He also promised to go through the budget line by line and fix every program that isn’t working, while also embracing the programs that are working. And he was going to do so without any extra cost to anyone. Then everyone waved their miniature american flags, and it really was impossible not to think of the simpsons.

But I guess my problem is, it’s gonna be the same empty rhetoric at the RNC when McCain talks, and when the others talk. And it would’ve been the same if Hilary and Huckabee had been nominated. Or Edwards and Romney. Giuliani only would’ve been different in that he would have begun and ended every sentence with “9/11.” Just a bunch of bs slogans and promises that are insulting to the average person’s intelligence. But then we’re all supposed to stand and applaud. Disheartening, really.

  3. Kevin says:

Oh yes. I didn’t mean to imply that I dislike Obama and like the Republicans. I am sure McCain is up to the challenge of insulting me just as much if not more.

If you read through the speech from last night one of the worst parts is, there are things thrown in there for everyone. It almost alternates between rightist sentiments and leftist sentiments. Or sentiments that can be read either way like:

“It’s a promise that says the market should reward drive and innovation and generate growth, but that businesses should live up to their responsibilities to create American jobs, look out for American workers, and play by the rules of the road.”

    1. So market should reward and drive innovation, look rightists I think the market is right.
    2. But look leftists businesses have a responsibility to create American jobs, and look out for American workers.
    3. And both of you the business should play by the rules of the road. So either can interpret rules of the road they way they see fit.

It is exactly like the Simpsons, you just try and find the right sequence of words that gets you cheered. If you look you can almost see the intent to include all the special interests (all the ones that hold a large enough mob, I mean voting block). There is a section thrown in there that says, look I am for the 2nd amendment, just not for evil people having AK-47s.

And for the final Simpsons parallel is there any actual difference between this sentence :
“We may not agree on abortion, but surely we can agree on reducing the number of unwanted pregnancies in this country.” -Obama
    and this:
“Abortions for some, miniature American flags for others.” -Kang

There is no President of the US, because there is no content there. They don’t take ideas seriously, it is just a crossword puzzle to be figured out so you can get into office. It is very disheartening. It is one of the reasons I am very strongly considering not voting for any President. As you probably can’t tell, my choice currently is Obama or no vote.

I can’t vote for McCain because I don’t want to encourage the incursion of religion into politics. “faith based initiatives” and all the other things that are battering the 1st amendment that are squarely in control of the republican party. I think these are the greatest threat to our freedom today. Also as you say, the RNC will be all about political crossword puzzledry as well. But, man does all this empty rhetoric make me sick.

  4. Kevin says:

oops. Didn’t mean to write a book. I’ll go back to building communication systems now.

  5. TMC says:

Yeah– book writing is my turf, man. Back off!
