okay- so here’s another problem with free agency: as the economy crumbles around us and everyone’s losing all their money, I feel kind of like an idiot celebrating the thought of the Eagles paying many millions of dollars to a football player. I mean– everyone’s salaries are going down, and yet I’m supposed to be thrilled that NFL players’ salaries are going up?
That’s an interesting point. In the fact that NFL revenues will fall in a flagging economy. I am certain none of their contracts has any sort of consideration for deflation of the economy. I mean every year the cap increases to account for inflation or whatever it increases for.
This may be that turning point that I’ve thought about that will make the NFL popularity fall off. Currently they are clearly riding the crest of their most successful years. I mean they started their own TV network.
Of course given the governmental solution seems to be to solve problem of a raging fire by the addition of gasoline and kindling maybe we’ll all have $100 million dollar contracts which of course will be worth nothing. So actually maybe the caps will grow faster, and we’ll need zimbabwe like $100,000,000 dollar bills to pay the players.
